HOW TO PLAY

Instead of tackling an opponent, players stop the play by pulling a flag attached to the ball carrier’s waist. Flag football is a sport for everyone – there’s a position to suit every player.

The basic principles are similar to traditional American football:

The offense has four attempts, known as downs, to advance the ball a certain distance down the field. The defense tries to stop them from gaining those yards.

If the offense reaches the end zone, they score 6 points. After a touchdown, the team has the option to score additional points with an extra play:

  • 1 extra point if the play starts 5 yards from the end zone

  • 2 extra points if the play starts 10 yards from the end zone

Flag football is growing rapidly and is one of the fastest-growing team sports worldwide. With its inclusion in the Olympic programme for the 2028 Games, flag football is reaching another major milestone.

Flag Football iS A FAST-PACED, LOW-CONTACT AND TECHNICALLY DEMANDING VERSION OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL.
